CH Addidas Alpha Monopoly, CGC, TT, ROM "Roc" 06/14/92 - 07/30/02
Rocco was born on June 14, 1992 and was placed with a family in Alabama. Shortly thereafter, Rocco's breeder, Marci Iler, found out that Roc was in rescue. He finally came home and was placed with a vet technician in West Virginia. Roc quickly earned his AKC Championship. He was a beautiful dog with a gorgeous topline, shoulders, and he was clean moving front and rear. Plus, he had a great show attitude. In December of 1996, something went terribly wrong. Roc was found abandoned in a 300 size crate. This large dog, standing at 27 inches, weighed 65 lbs. He was skeleton. With further investigation, Marci had learned that Roc was left abandoned in that crate for two weeks without food or water. It's amazing that he was alive! Since Roc was a special case, Marci did not want to place him with someone who worked all day and didn't spend too much time at home. Roc needed a family. Through curly friend, Jane Harry, Marci learned of Winnie and Tom Reed, of Amberlea Farms, who once owned a curly named Cinders. Winnie and Tom met Roc and immediately fell in love. This dog had found himself the "home of a lifetime." In late 1997, Winnie wanted to show people that Roc had recovered from his trauma. She entered him a show, where he ended up winning BOB over the three-time Pedigree Award Winning CH Addidas Christmas Party, TT, CGC, ROM. In 1998, Roc started a great show career. He finished 1998 and 1999 as the Pedigree Award Winning Curly Coated Retriever, and was CCRCA Dog of the Year for those years, as well. Roc sired three litters: one out of CH Addidas Gusty, one out of CH Addidas Zinnia, and one out of CH Addidas Grace Under Fire, TT, CGC, ROM. Due to these litters, Roc earned his CCRCA ROM. In May of 2002, Winnie and Tom learned that Roc had cancer. Even with aggressive treatment, he was just too weak to go on. They put him down on July 30, 2002. It was truly a sad day for the curly world. They lost a great ambassador, and Winnie and Tom lost their best friend. Hopefully for Winnie, Rocco's legacy lives on with his son, Crunch (Laketower Cap'n Crunch, CGC, TT, WC) and his granddaughter, Amber (Addidas Legacy at Amberlea).
